ARTISTS STATEMENT

My work explores the main enquiries of Art as Communication and Art as Catharsis. Art for me is a way of dealing with intense, buried emotions and originally my enquiry started with documenting the destruction of Yates's Wine Lodge in Blackpool when it suffered from arson. My work then took on more of an intensity as it's associations (metonymy) with the ephemeral and death became more evident. Continuing with my catharsis, my work is becoming more refined, expressive and remains dark and mysterious on one level, yet positive and layered with intricate, aesthetic and ambiguous texture.
